Starting on the journey to becoming a parent is one of the most exciting and emotionally fraught times of our adult lives, particularly if it proves not to be as straightforward as expected.
From initial fertility issues, through to morning sickness and then the anticipation of the birth itself, there can be a number of what can feel like insurmountable obstacles to be overcome.
If you are facing issues with becoming pregnant and have been given
the frustrating and unhelpful diagnosis of “unexplained infertility”,
you will no doubt experience a rollercoaster of emotions, from helplessness
to confusion as to what you can do next. But, in many ways this is good news
as it means there is NO physical reason why you cannot become pregnant and
therefore it is simply a case that you haven’t conceived YET.
So how can Hypnotherapy help? Clinical Psychologist Elizabeth Muir explains that hypnotherapy affects the hypothalamus; the neural centre at the base of the brain linked to the pituitary gland, by controlling the flow of hormones in the body. The hypothalamus is sensitive to stress and turns emotional messages into physical responses that affect hormone levels, hence effecting our physical wellbeing. So using Hypnotherapy to release tension, reduce emotional stress and resolve issues around becoming a parent, can really impact on your fertility and ability to conceive.
Of course, this is only the beginning of the journey and sadly not every pregnancy is the serene and beautiful experience we long for. My own recent pregnancy was beset with all-day sickness, discomfort and worry. Luckily, daily practise of the Birth Preparation Hypnotherapy techniques which I teach my clients, significantly reduced my symptoms. I was able to ease my worries about giving birth, reduce my sickness, feel strong, serene and fully prepared to meet my daughter. Although the birth didn’t exactly go to plan with (my darling girl remaining stubbornly in a breach position), the Hypnotherapy proved invaluable in preparing me for an unplanned Caesarean with a calm, positive state of mind. As a result we all enjoyed the beautiful experience of her birth.
So if you are encountering obstacles in your quest to become a parent, from unexplained fertility, to unwanted pregnancy symptoms, worries or fear at the thought of giving birth; get in contact to find out how my Hypnotherapy methods can help.
